One of the things that makes the Shoreline a shopper’s paradise is the amount of boutiques that line village greens, Route 1, and the side streets. Here are four that are worth the trip.
THE SHORELINE VINE
At first it doesn’t sound like a plausible idea. Then you walk in. This new boutique off Main Street in Madison is a surprising intro into the world of gourmet olive oil and various vinegars. It is lined with urns of both, and you can visit more flavors than you could imagine. Taste. Mix. Fill your own bottle, or buy samplers. The Shoreline Vine struck us as a great place to find the offbeat gift for a casual chef or a good stop on the way to the holiday party.

Got Tibet? It’s a bit isolated on Route 1, much like Tibet. For the more spiritual on the gift list, Dharma Jewel has everything from prayer flags, to Buddha statues, to skull bracelets. Also has an Olde Mistick Village location.

MIX DESIGN STORE
Off the Guilford Green, Mix is as close to the MOMA gift shop as you are going to get without jumping on Metro North. And there is something for everyone from glass figurines to traffic sign art. 29 Whitfield Street, Guilford
If you can’t find a dress at Asiye’s you can’t find a dress. Located next to the Madison Art Cinemas, its current location has three floors of dresses and is arguably the biggest dress store (outside of outlets and malls) on the Shoreline. Asiye’s made its reputation for prom and formal dresses. It still has a huge inventory of formalwear but is surprising for its cocktail dresses, retro, and deco accessories for all sizes and all occasions.
