Chocolate Hot Spots

It was Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz who said: “All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” Note that he said “now and then.” Chocolate is not just for Valentine’s Day. The Connecticut shoreline has a wealth of chocolate and high-end candy boutiques. Here’s a sampler:

Sweet Creations
1116B Main Street, Branford
Located off the Branford Green, Sweet Creations has been making their creative sweets for all of the Connecticut shoreline since 1999. The popular candy shop has been seen on NBC Connecticut Discoveries and Fox 61 Morning Show.

The Village Chocolatier
79 Whitfield Street, Guilford
This quaint, old-fashioned
 sweet shop is located on
the edges of the Guilford
Green. From their specialty chocolates to their cream-and-butter fudge,
 which is made on the
 premises, to their serving of
Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, this is the perfect gourmet sweet shop.

Splash American Grill/Madison Chocolates
535 Boston Post Road, Guilford
Experienced Chef Paul A. Staley and Diana Staley-Lynch opened Madison Chocolates in 2005 in hopes of launching the shoreline’s premier chocolate, pastry, and gelato destination. Their highly acclaimed sweets are located in a side pocket of their restaurant, Splash American Grill.

Main Street Sweet Shoppe
162 Main Street, Deep River
Deep River’s sweet shop will blow you away with its old-fashioned feel and even sweeter chocolates and baked goods made by their baker, Kathy Pindar. They serve Buck’s ice creams, fresh roasted coffees, and offer custom gift baskets.

The Chocolate Shell
18 Lyme Street, Old Lyme
This popular destination offers “nostalgic candies,” homemade chocolates, and barista- made coffee. They make unique goods such as caramel and bacon gourmet bars, which are, believe it or not, one of the most highly recommended items to try at this location.

Gumdrops & Lollipops
334 Main Street, Niantic
This old-fashioned candy and ice cream shop is open year-round and 7 days a week offers
a great feel of home values and seaside charm. Any flavor of fudge you can dream of, the bakers at Gumdrops & Lollipops make it. Among these exotic fudge flavors, they also offer other specialty chocolates, taffy, nostalgic candy, and ice cream.
